Guitar Hero sa aj v novom pokračovaní spolieha na istotu základov, ktoré ho vystrelili do stratosféry. Warriors of Rock sa sústreďuje najmä na hru na gitaru. Grafika sa možno zmenila, ale hrateľnosť nie.
Všetky obľúbené režimy, miešanie nástrojov, okamžitý vstup, viaceré úrovne obtiažnosti a vytváranie vlastných playlistov zostali v hre Warriors of Rock zachované. Obľúbená rýchla hra sa dočkala miernych zmien, pokiaľ ide o počet výziev, ktorých je až 13 na jednu skladbu, a okrem čistej hrateľnosti sleduje aj dosahovanie neuveriteľne vysokého skóre pomocou špeciálnych schopností transformovaných postáv. Ohromujúce milióny sa potom zapíšu do celosvetového rebríčka.
V príbehovo orientovanom režime Quest Mode budete postupne zdolávať jednu etapu za druhou a odomykať nové predmety do výbavy svojich hudobníkov. Najdôležitejšou informáciou je počet skladieb na disku, bude ich viac ako 90, vrátane skladby Sudden Death, ktorú špeciálne pre hru napísal Dave Mustaine z Megadeth.
